Sights in Merano & surroundings & events around Scena

Exploring the Merano region

Urban, rural, open – the Merano region has much to offer. Around the city, just minutes away, you’ll find small villages, unexpected expanses, and unforgettable excursions. It doesn’t matter whether you want to explore on your own or prefer to take part in a guided tour.

Merano is a must

The historic spa town of Merano lies just below Scena – easily reachable by bus or a few minutes by car. A city walk leads through the arcades and old town, past Art Nouveau façades and along the promenades.

For those interested, visit the Kurhaus, the city museum in Palais Mamming, the Women’s Museum, or the Tappeinerweg above the rooftops.

The gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle

Slightly above Merano are the gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle – with over 80 garden landscapes from around the world. A wonderful place for strolling, viewing, and marveling.

The Touriseum at the castle offers insights into the history of tourism in South Tyrol from past to present.

Day trips & bus excursions

Those who want to explore for a day have many options from the Lagrein – well connected, scenically beautiful, and occasionally urban. Here are some popular day-trip destinations:

  • Bolzano
The capital of South Tyrol – with museums, arcades, the Archaeological Museum (Ötzi), and a vibrant cityscape. Also suitable for just a half-day visit.
  • Verona
Old town, Arena, opera – and a touch of romance, Romeo and Juliet. The journey takes about two hours.
  • Lago di Garda
Mild climate, promenades, and small towns right on the water – perfect for a Mediterranean excursion. Riva del Garda is only two hours by car.
  • Venice
Not nearby, but doable – by organised day trip or on your own. A day for alleys, canals, and a change of perspective.
